Diet Soda = Poison

Stop Drinking Poison
Yesterday I was at lunch at our neighborhood organic restaurant, Sojourner. I overheard a woman ordering her drink, she actually said “I don’t suppose you have any normal, poisonous drinks like Diet Coke here?” Fortunately, they do not serve pop (yes, I’m from Michigan) but have great things like green juice and smoothies.
It was crazy to me that someone would recognize that this product is in fact a poison (serious neurotoxin) and still wanted to order it! I feel the same way about cigarettes and do not know why anyone in 2014 would take up smoking or continue to smoke. These behaviors and lifestyle choices remind me of a quote from the 100 Year Lifestyle book, “change is easy, and thinking about change is difficult.”
What it take for you to change? To stop drinking poison, stop smoking, stop eatingproessed foods? For me it is valuing my health. I value it so highly. At 14 I watched my mother die from breast cancer treatment so do everything in my power to live a clean life. I know that maximum it is only 20% genetics and the rest is lifestyle so that is why I place a huge emphasis on living a healthy life. This includes chiropractic, organic food, exercise, yoga, meditation, massage, energy healing, acupuncture, and so many other modalities.
Shifting your thought process into a paradigm of TRUE health care based in the principles that the body has an ability to heal its self will completely change your life in a positive way!Siple lifestyle changes and choices like cutting gout poisons like Diet sodas will make a HUGE difference! You deserve to be healthy and express your full potential each and every day. Give your body the chance and opportunity to heal from above, down, inside-out. Value yourself enough to have your spine and nervous system checked regularly and respect the innate intelligence that animates every cell of your body.

Connecting v. Networking

Building Relationships

I love terms like “connecting” and “building relationships” more than “networking”. For me, they reflect an authenticity that I find to be lost often times when meeting new people.
Part of the reason I embrace building an genuine relationship rather than shoving my business card down someone’s throat is the fact that I am a woman. Genetically women are more collaborative and want to connect with others on a deeper level. Also as a doctor, I want to get to know people and businesses before I refer patients. This is why I get acupuncture from the L.Ac we refer to, get biofeedback sessions from the holistic MD’s office we sent patient to, and countless other services.
This sis what is authentic for me! Love going into other businesses and sitting down with other healthcare providers and learning about their practice. I value building on the collective experience of owning a small business rather than each person having to reinvent the wheel.
Today, we drove down to Camarillo to meet with a member of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) because I am not only on the board but now the chair of the membership committee. I am reaching out to other members, whether they are emerging or established to just learn about them. I find this face-to-face time to be fun, valuable, and so rewarding. I believe bonding first is critical and then referrals will follow.  It is so important to treat people with respect, interest, and let them know that their opinion is valuable.  So much of this has been lost because of the overuse and oversaturation of social media, the internet, and texting. I do use all of these platforms to communicate however sitting down in person is a lot more rewarding! Especially since I am young and it is almost unexpected that a sub 30 year old would rather meet in person rather than e-mailing back and forth.
There are so many ways to network, connect, share, and collaborate. This is what works for me, but I encourage you to dig deep and find what is authentic for you. The most important thing is to let others know that you care and that you value to their thoughts. Keep is positive and keep shining on!

Simple, Quick, Healthy Dinner Idea

Simple, Healthy Dinner Idea

Owning a business, running a practice, being on boards, just living life can all create stress and be quite demanding! Fast-food, processed food, package food may seem like the easy option. It appears cheap, but this is a very superficial way of looking at it. This is because if you are consuming lots of this “good” you will pay the price sooner or later with your health, or lack thereof.
Today I was tired, had been in the office earlier in the day, and we did not get a lot of food at the farmers market this weekend even though we went to two markets. The next market is not until tomorrow so I had to pull it together. I did sort of a “high tea” concept that my stepmother often employs during the week. So here is what we had for dinner tonight:
·         Hot tea – Chi loose tea from Earthjing. It is organic and fair-trade. I added 2 whole cloves, 2 cardamom pods, cinnamon, and ginger.
·         Fresh honey dates from the farmers market. I pulled the stones out of them and replaced them with a raw almond from Fat Uncle Farms, also purchased at the farmers market.  I also had a pile of raw almonds on the little platter.
·         2 types of raw cheese that I cut into small cubes.
·         Organic strawberries from Saturday’s market. (The season started super early because of the strange “winter” weather we had this year in California)
·         1 avocado. Yesterday we went to an avocado ranch our friend lives on and she gave us 25 avocados! This was on top of the 7 we bought from Hilltop Canyon farm at Saturday’s market.
·          ½ sweet potatoes and 2 red beets roasted in the oven. (I have been seeking more balance between cooked and raw vegetables per my Ayurvadic consultation two weeks ago)
This dinner was super simple, quick, and very healthy. There was a lot of good fats in the avocado, almonds, and butter I used to roast the vegetables. These all contain protein as well. Dates are sweet and provide many minerals and necessary fiber. The cheese contain fats and proteins and the roasted vegetables are full of wonderful nutrients, too! Strawberries are delicious and taste so great with the cheese. Finally, the tea was extremely anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory, not to mention totally amazing!
I hope this gives you some ideas of how you can put together a quick and healthy meal. Although we eat some grass fed organic meat, it is definitely not a staple of our meals. We also gave up gluten for Lent so you will notice there was not any bread or grains for that matter! There are so many wonderful, healthy options out there for you. Step outside your comfort zone and buy in season produce and other items at your local farmers market. Have fun seeing what you come up with!
