Your posture is a window to your spine and therefore a
window to your overall health picture. So, what is your posture saying about
the state of your health?
Many Americans unfortunately have poor posture due to modern day stress and
the culture of the workplace. Teenagers are bent over their phones texting,
students are bent over their books, and adults are bent over their computer
work stations. This posture, overtime, leads to something called forward head
posture (Also known as anterior head carriage and is a part of upper cross syndrome).
This is created when the muscles in front such as the pecks are extremely shortened
and tight, the neck is forward over the shoulder with the head looking down.
This often causes the shoulders to be rolled forward as well creating a hump at
the upper back.
This posture is putting tremendous stress and pressure on your
spine, spinal muscles, and spinal cord. The cervical (neck) spine should be
shaped like a banana but more and more we are seeing people with straight
spines, and even worse, reverse curves. For every 1 inch your head is forward
it adds an extra 10 pounds of pressure on your neck muscles. Imagine holding a 8-12
lbs. bowling ball out in front of you all day- your arms would get fatigued,
right? Similarly the muscles of your neck get fatigued and you begin slouching
more and more. This just makes the forward head posture even worse, causing
extreme pressure on the neck.
Furthermore, tremendous stress is being placed on your
spinal cord and the nerves that leave the spine and go out to every single cell
of your body.
Through regular chiropractic care you can begin to correct
your posture through Tim and repetition. It is a series of adjustments that are
specific to the spine and actually re-educate the spine itself. Each joint in your
body has its position memorized and each muscle has its tension memorized so now
as chiropractors so we are helping to adjust the spine and re-educate the spine
and nervous system. This will allow for full and optimum nerve flow to every
single cell tissue, and organ of the body.
You an an innate ability to be healthy. Release and unleash
your full potential with a fully functioning nervous system that is made of a
solid foundation of good posture and regular chiropractic check-ups.
