Shifting the Pink Paradigm

Elective body mutilation in the name of disease prevention must end. This subversive thinking is based on fear, and is dangerous to society. I am calling all women to tap into their inner wisdom and recognize that health always comes from within and that you cannot cut something out to gain health. Women are very connected to their intuition and it is time that they start listening to that inner voice. It is that inner voice that will guide them to make the best decisions toward optimal health and will also manifest health from within.

There has been a slow yet steady stream of celebrities undergoing elective double mastectomies because they are at high risk for breast cancer. This shows a clear lack of understanding of how the body works and in particular the role that genes play in health or disease.

Personally, my father’s mother had breast cancer, my mother died at the age of 44 from breast cancer, my mother’s sister has breast cancer for the third time, and my maternal grandfather has breast cancer. It seems like there may be something going on here ,right? Is it the genes? Is it leftover pesticide residue from the orchard that used to exist where their house now stands?  Some individuals in my family have decided to have genetic testing but I have decided not to go down this course.   Here is my reasoning: The father of epigenetics, Dr. Bruce Lipton PhD, discovered during his research over forty years ago that the environment controls the genetic expression, not the genes. He says, “Genes may load the gun, but your environment pulls the trigger.” So the world you live in , the household cleaners you use, the foods you eat, your job, your stress levels, the amount of exercise is all part of your environment. You can have the gene,  but it may not  be turned on because you are living a clean and healthy life. Further research shows that only 25% of disease has a genetic component, the rest is based on your environment, both internal and external.

In the United States, women make most of the health related decisions for the household. From grocery shopping to scheduling doctor’s appointments it is the wives and mothers leading the way. They play a powerful role in the lives of the family and even in the health of their surrounding community. It is time that we empower women with facts on how to achieve genuine health!

1 Health does not come from a pill, potion or surgery. It never comes from the outside-in.
2 In emergency situations medicine is great because it can save your life. Otherwise it is usually symptom and disease driven rather than health motivated.
3 True prevention of disease must be based on a model of inside-out health and the understanding that the body can heal its self.
4 Stop blaming “bad genes” for your poor health and take control of your own life .
5 You must get adjusted! The nervous system impacts every cell, tissue, organ, and other body system. A nervous system free of interference, from spinal subluxations, allows for optimal life expression. When the nervous system is functioning at 100% the immune system works better, the body is able to self-regulate, and your overall sense of wellbeing is improved.

The steps that I have outlined above will help to dramatically improve your life and overall health. It is time to stop supporting companies and organizations who are not congruent with creating a healthy lifestyle. Purchase your food at local farmers markets and make sure it is certified organic. Donate to not for profit organizations that meet you at your own values instead of investing in faulty profit driven research. Drink clean water, breathe fresh air, spend time in the sun, and introduce movement into your life every day. All these activities are important but the MOST important is getting your spine and nervous system checked by a Doctor of Chiropractic on a regular basis.

I am putting out a call to all women, especially those with family histories of breast cancer to join me in a new tribe. My vision is to create a community that is focused on prevention, a support group that helps keep you accountable to your health goals. Survivor groups are wonderful, but my vision is to have a group that allows for open heart space communication and focuses on the cause of dis-ease. I am putting this intention into the universe in loving memory of my mother, Diane. Please join me in this cause so that we can shift the pink paradigm into one of prevention and health optimization rather than disease and crisis care.

Dr. Elizabeth

Who Are You?

One of the main topics I love to write and give talks on is taking your challenges and turning them into an asset.  This goes way beyond words… it takes clear intention and action!

Our struggles in life can cause us to fall into the winter of discontent only to realize that life is still happening around us and eventually we must rejoin the world. During these times , when we are feeling super low, we can find our way by trusting our innate intelligence. Innate is perfect and fortunate for us, we do not always have to be perfect to follow innate’s guidance. There is constant shift between negative and positive and hopefully leaning more toward the positive end of the spectrum as we march through our lives.

In the times of vulnerbility, sadness, and negative mindset we can awaken our souls to the possibilities that surround  us. It is a different lens, and sometimes can only be cleansed by our tears allowing us greater vision into what innate has planned.

Every person has the right to this self determination for their own truth. Some people take more time, some people need to cry , and others find it with great ease. Each person has their own path and it is correct for them. The only time that we get lost is when we shut down that voice inside of us and listen to the outside chatter, whether it be negative news or our less than supportive family members. The real strength and courage is always within. This same strength and courage is what redirects us when we are lost, inspiring our souls to get on course once again.

It is easy to be discouraged, it is easy to be thrown off track only to realize later on that the entire time you had been day dreaming,  about a better life. Later on, you finally realize,   you were actually living that life you had always imagined. Perhaps it was not the fairy tale you pictured as a child, but it was your truth and it was beautiful because you finally realized your innate potential.

Personally, I still dream in vivid colors even though I can no longer really see them in a “normal” way. Sometimes it does make me mad or sad and I think that is fine to experience those emotions. Now I experience colors in feelings that are deeply connected to my childhood and my authentic self. If you say “sage green” I feel safe inside knowing that is my favorite color. If you say “chocolate brown” I feel joy with a bit of loneliness because it reminds me of my mother always wearing sweaters this color and I miss her dearly. When I think of blue, I can hear my grandma’s voice or hot pink I have memories of our yellow lab, Abbi’s collar. You see, I can still have color in my life but it is no longer visual it is a feeling and a much deeper sensation. These are the sort of realizations one can have when they are plugged into the universe and themselves. I work out, I eat super clean organic and local food, I drink green juice at least once a day, I say my affirmations  but what really connects me is the chiropractic adjustment.  The adjustment restores my connections with the outside world and my internal battles of losing my mother and sight at the age of 14. Learning to deliver an adjustment gave me purpose and taught me how to love others for the sake of loving and serve  them for the sake of serving.

I believe that if you can cry and then laugh within a moment of one another it is like a rainbow when it is raining. They are so different, but are beautiful together. This is life, so cry when you need to cry. Laugh with every fiber in your being and love all this emotion. It is in these small, yet significant moments in life, that full expression of life is realized. It is in these moments that we can find great clarity and the resolve to forgive our past transgressions. Once forgiven, we can better tune into innate and manifest our genuine souls through intention and action.

It is important to remember, nobody is perfect but we can all live an amazing life. Through all of the stress, anxiety, and struggles everyone can realize they are living the life they have imagined when there is no interference. Create the intention in your heart space and take an action today to get clear in your  head, in your heart and most importantly in yoru nervous system. With clarity comes joy, with joy we can create a beautiful world .

Get Back Up On That Horse!

We have all been told at some point in our lives after a perceived failure to get back up on the horse. How often do we take this advice to heart? Sometimes it is scary to try that thing you did not succeed at the first time or it just seems plain impossible that you will ever get it right.

This past weekend I went horseback riding for the first time since I lost most of my sight. I grew up riding and realized a couple of months ago that I really missed it. My mother had owned a couple of horses , I had participated in adopt a horse projects and we went riding all over the country. In my quest to truly reconnect with my authentic self I came to the conclusion that I must get back up on a horse!  So, Saturday Dr. Jacob and I went riding at the Circle Bar B Ranch. It was n hour and a  half ride but ended up being more like two hours. We went up to 1000 feet in elevation, through part of the national forest, crossed streams and passed by the oldest avocado trees in Santa Barbara County.

Half way through the ride I realized how at peace I was with the world. Being on a horse again was a sort of homecoming for me personally. I found something I loved doing when I was sighted again and I was able to do it on my own without sight. It was the best feeling in the world! I was able to let go of old fears and take in the beauty that nature had to offer through my other senses.

The old adage is true, you must get back on that horse again. Life is super tough but when you find something you love doing, keep doing it! Never let a so-called disability or challenge get in your way. Your body has an amazing inner wisdom that will help our adapt and conquer your challenges. My sight decreased but my hearing improved! Take some time for self reflection to discover what your body and universal intelligence is offering you in this moment. You have so many gifts and it is time for you to unleash them! The world is ready for you to be awesome so gitty up!

Lifetime of Health

IT seems like products today are not built to last. I have had an iphone 5 stop working after a month and a half, an ipad mini stop responding after a week and a juicer die after a month of making green juices.  I feel like I am living in some sort of Bermuda triangle where electronic devices just stop working for no apparent reason! It is extremely frustrating and an economic burden!

You can trade in your phones for refurbished ones and buy new juicers. Nothing really seems to have a life time guarantee anymore. We are however guaranteed a lifetime of health but so many people take that for granted thinking they can trade it in for the latest pills, surgeries and get health quick schemes.  Our society has taught us to not expect much from our products and this apparently applies to our bodies too. Turning off the television, avoiding negative news and getting back to the basics of life will help flip this mindset… but there is still more you can do to change your life around!

With all these so called, “advances” in modern society it would seem like people should be healthier but the exact opposite is true. More people have cancer, more people have heart disease and more people are dying from prescription drugs.  What happened to a guarantee of lifetime health? The most important thing you can do right now, is to get your spine and nervous system evaluated by a chiropractor. The nervous system regulates everything in the body so when it has interference, your body is simply not functioning as well as it should. You may feel pain, ill, or simply not like yourself. Instead of masking these symptoms when your body is in a state of dis-ease tune in, instead of tuning the warning signs out.  Instead of trading in your original part for the latest and greatest model realize that you are perfect just the way you are.  Your body is amazing and beautiful so take care of it! Does it really make sense to get a transplant and take “anti-rejection” medication the rest of your life? Your body is intelligent, so much so that it is rejecting something that is foreign to it. It is rejecting the GM food, it is rejecting the medications, it is rejecting a sedentary lifestyle, it is rejecting your negative thoughts  so then you decide to reject your body.

Make a decision today to stop rejecting your body and give it some love. Love yourself enough to get adjusted regularly so that you can have this body with a guarantee of lifetime health and happiness.
