Downward facing dog:yoga::squats: strength training

Last July I started working out with a personal trainer once a week. Part of the warm-up each week was “bear crawl” and it was extremely difficult for me. I understood how to do it but had a hard time making my body do what I wanted. I had lost my cross crawl pattern over the years as my eye sight declined. Over time it started coming back, it became a little bit easier each week to perform bear crawl and other primal movements. I was literally experiencing what it was like to rehab from a neurological perspective, truly realizing that the neurons that fire together, wire together!
By Autumn I was working out with a second trainer and started private yoga teacher. When I started yoga in August, I had only been to one class and did not know all that much about yoga. Very quickly I found myself loving my yoga practice. I was practicing every day on my own and reading about yoga at night. I let go of my fears and started attending actual classes at a studio. I had been fearful of class because I was unsure if I would know what was going on since I cannot see the teacher demonstrating the poses. Now, come February, I am attending advanced level classes and really pushing myself! Regaining balance and overall stability in my body has been empowering. Being able to hold standing tree pose without falling over was a huge accomplishment in my life. Dead lifting 155 lbs and knowing that I can do more was exilerating! These are all huge achievements and I am so proud of myself. None of them would have been this allows me to be strong and very flexible. I reaching my potential, getting new PRs every time I try because I have an optimally functioning nervous system.
