SUGAR! Honey Honey

Sugar, Honey Honey… You need to STOP eating candy girl!

The sugar you are eating each and every day is killing you!
Sugar is hidden in processed foods under many aliases, including: fructose (concentrated fruit juices like apple), sucrose, galactose, lactose, glucose, HFCS (AKA corn syrup or corn sugar), evaporated cane sugar, brown sugar, brown rice syrup, honey, and refined sugar…. To name a few!

One of the healthiest options is raw, organic, cold pressed, local honey. The body does NOT recognize all sugars the same way, therefore it cannot use them or not use them, the same way. Honey unlike many other sweeteners is in fact a whole food. This means its minerals and other nutrients are bioavailable and complete. The can use them. Another added benefit to raw honey is its anti-microbial properties. Some people, including myself, put raw honey on open cuts to aid in the healing process and prevent infections. Several years ago a HUGE scandal broke in the news, many store bought brands of “honey” were found to be nothing more than glorified sugar water – containing none of the health benefits found in raw honey. This is why it is important to find a reliable source for raw honey, the best place to start is your local farmer’s market.
Another natural sweetener that contains even more minerals than raw honey is maple syrup.  I highly recommend the organic Grade B variety as it is less refined than its Grade A counter parts. It also tastes delicious in foods, as it is brings whole new layers to the flavor profile.
Alternative ways to sweeten food include: carrots, apples, and even caramelized onions. Onions contain many natural sugars and when they are cooked over low heat to the point they caramelize, they can be used in and on many foods and they will definitely be very sweet! Salt (preferably pink Himalayan variety) when added to a fruit smoothie will bring out the sweetness of the     fruits without any added sugar necessary. As a bonus, pink salt contains 84 minerals and can assist in electrolyte re-balancing.It may seem counterintuitive to use salt but I promise it will enhance the flavor of your treat!
Above I have outlined many natural and healthy sweeteners so you know what to eat! It is just as important to know what NOT to eat.Artifical sweeteners such as malitol and other sugar alcohalshave serious negative effects on your GI system and over time may cause damage. Even products like xylitol found often in gum can have a laxative effect when used in excess not to mention the havoc gum chewing may have on the jaw. Although this is a good alternative if you must chew gum, if you can avoid it you will be healthier overall.
Artificial sweeteners are often used in coffee and tea. When you are at a restaurant you will see a variety           of colored packets. Equal, Sweet n’ Low, as well as Splenda are the most common. Each of these artificial sweeteners contains a different type of artificial sugar but all negative impact the nervous system. The reason this is such a problem is that your nervous system controls every single cell, tissue, organic in the body. One of the places people often think they are making a “healthier” choice is diet soda. This is extremely UNHEALTHY and frankly ireesponsible to consume! You are sacrificing your body, healthy, and neurology to save on consuming some extra empty calories. Do NOT drink diet soda….EVER!!!
Artificial sweeteners have been linked to many neurological conditions including MS and even brain tumors. Without a properly functioning nervous system you will over time manifest dis-ease, followed by dysfunction, then disease, and eventually cell death. It is important to cut out processed food, eat as organic and local as possible, eat REAL food, and get your spine and nervous system checked by a chiropractor on a regular basis. This will your body to function optimally so that you may live to 80, 90, and 100 and beyond!
