What is causing your disease?

When you get a cut, do you have to tell your body what to do in order to heal? When you are getting "sick" do you instruct your body to raise the temperature creating a fever and killing off the foreign invaders? When you break a bone do you take a pill to make the bone grow back and heal the fracture? The answer to all of these questions is a simple NO!

The body knows what to do. It has an intelligence, chi, vital life force that controls and animates it. The body has within it the ability to self-heal, self-develop, and self-regulate. This is all just fact. In chiropractic we examine the spine for subluxations which are causing interference in the nervous system. Any sort of interference in the nervous system causes a disruption in the flow of your innate intelligence or vital life force depending on what you want to call this energy. When this happens it will lead to disease states throughout the body.

There are 3 main causes of subluxation referred to as traumas, toxins, and thoughts. Aan example of trauma is a car accident that results in a whip lash injury. Toxins are omnipresent in society found in GMO and conventional food as well as pharmaceutical drugs. Finally thoughts or auto suggestions can cause subluxation. This often occurs through negative thought patterns, stress, and anxiety. All three categories can have profound impacts on your spine, nervous system, and overall health.

Genuine Chiropractic in Santa Barbara is dedicated to healing, mind, body, spirit, and planet through chiropractic care. We use specific spinal adjustments to adjust, when necessary, subluxations and remove any interference in the nervous system. We do note cure anything, we simply remove interference and allow the body to heal its self.

What does your CV say about your life?

CV: Curriculum Vitae through Cultivating Vitalism

What does your CV say about your life, accomplishments, and even your future plans? Often we throw together our CV (Curriculum Vitae) in haste when we are applying for scholarships or a job.  What if we started creating them as a living breathing document? Constantly updating them to truly reflect our personalities, ambitions, and accomplishments. Linked-in is one way to do this but gets a bit crowded. I believe it is a good way to outline your professional life and to some extent your personality. Although this is a great start, to make it fully reflect a person as a human being flowing with vital life force we must take our CV to another level. I am calling on everyone to Cultivate Vitalism in their CV! List your personal statement, but really know wit and be able to say it in a moment’s notice. Professional achievements should not be discounted but showing that you are well-rounded is critical. When we solely focus on professional aspects of our life it is mechanistic. The 100 Year Lifestyle stresses balance and finding this in our prime time, prep time, and play time.
This concept of CV is something I am just cultivating. It is more than just a work in progress, it is a way of life that is slowly revealing it’s self through discussions with mentors, day dreaming, and living a vitalistic lifestyle. Please subscribe to this blog to read more about this specific concept of CV as I uncover the true meaning of cultivating Vitalism. We can grow together and collaborate to heal mind, body, spirit, and planet.

Get Moving in 2014

It is 2014 and time to stop telling yourself that diet soda is healthy, eating fast-food won’t kill you, and that watching TV instead of working out is healthy! Innately, you know that these are all lies. Your body is signaling to you each and every day to drink more water, eat organic vegetables, and get some sort of movement.  Why are you ignoring these messages from your body? Could it be that you are simply not recognizing the pain, disease states, and overall dis-ease as warning signs from your body. Sickness, disease, and pain are NOT a natural part of aging. What is natural is living in a balance state of health, which is what your body is constantly striving toward. Do not think of a fever or a cough as simply being sick, recognize that this is your body doing what it is naturally designed to do. Stop blaming your genes in 2014 for all of your problems and take responsibility for your lifestyle. You are meant to be healthy and to self-heal from above, down, inside-out. Subluxations in your spine cause interference in your nervous system. Your nervous system controls every cell, tissue, organ and other body system. A spinal adjustment performed by the chiropractors at Genuine Chiropractic in Santa Barbara will remove stress on the nervous system thus allowing the body to heal its self.

Setting Intentions in 2014

January is the time that we set goals and resolutions. Many of these goals and resolutions are centered around health, fitness, and weight loss. The problem with this traditional goal setting that after one slip-up we tend to go back to our old ways and wait until the next new year to try over. This creates a culture of failure, disappointment, and frustration. I would like to propose a new way of thinking about the New Year, it is setting intentions instead of goals. This way if you have a day or two where you do workout or eat the best food you are still able to move forward without feeling like a failure. This idea also plays into the 100 Year Lifestyle principle, “think progress, not perfection.”
When you set an intention to become healthier you are putting this information out into the universe. You are actually changing your own biochemistry with your thoughts and intentions and already cultivating better health. One of my favorite nerdy quotes I heard once at a conference is “There are only two things in this world that are all or nothing… action potentials and pregnancy.” Meaning that if you miss a day of working out it does not destroy all of the hard work you put in leading up to that day. You can just workout the next day and work toward personal health intentions.
Genuine Chiropractic is a great place to foster your intentions in the New Year. Both chiropractors have special times for nutritional consultations, will provide information about how to live your own ideal 100 Year Lifestyle, make specific spinal adjustments creating true health from the inside-out, and can refer you to the proper community health leaders for further assistance such as personal trainers.
Please join us on Wednesday January 15 at 6pm for a special workshop “A Healthy New You” to be held in the office 214 E. De La Guerra. Dr. Jacob will be giving a health talk, personal trainer Kevin Long will lead participants through a core strength and stability test as well as a workout. Chair massage will be available by our intern Shane, and other fun community health leaders will be dropping by and providing key information. If you want to set healintentions for 2014, then attending this workshop is critical! Everyone at Genuine Chiropractic look forward to serving you, as well as your entire family so that you may live your own ideal 100 Year Lifestyle and be a thriving member of the Santa Barbara community!
