Serving After Tragedy

The entire Santa Barbara community has been rocked this past week by the events that took place in IV Friday evening. It was a terrible tragedy and our hearts, thoughts, and prayers go out to all the students, staff, faculty of UCSB and the community as a whole.
Saturday afternoon was a tough day in our practice as we have patients that are both staff and students at UCSB. As more information was revealed, collectively everyone’s heart shattered a bit more.
Dr. Jacob and I attended the candlelight vigil Saturday evening and then volunteered our services on campus all of Monday afternoon.
It was an amazing experience getting to know the staff, faculty, and students yesterday. The staff was so compassionate, loving, and dedicated to the students. They gave us a room to set-up our portable adjusting table in and then walked students down after seeing the grief counselors.
We were not there to take away the pain but to remove interference in the nervous system so that their body could better handle the extremely stressful situation unfolding.  Some people had been adjusted before but about 20 people received their first ever chiropractic adjustment. It was powerful adjusting their upper cervical and feeling the body shift. There was so much gratitude and community that formed in those few hours.
It was a tremendous reminder as to why I became a doctor in the first place and that is to serve.
I am so grateful each day to be able to practice chiropractic, serve my community, and to give back whenever possible. I honor and thank everyone in the community for their tireless hours over the past several days and want to let them know that Genuine Chiropractic is here to support and serve.

In Loving Gratitude,

appy Memorial Day Weekend!

Happy Friday of a long weekend! What are you doing this weekend?
Growing up we spent this weekend as the kick-off for the summer, at our cottage. It is an hour north of my parents’ home in Michigan on a chain of four lakes. The cottage is one of my favorite places, we have boats, 4-wheeler, my little garden, campfires, Tigers baseball games, swimming in the lake with the dogs, and lots of fun. I sleep the best, and the longest, as the cottage. We battle over the “corner pocket” of the “L” shaped couch. It is the most comfortable spot in the cottage and even if you are wide awake as soon as you sink into the corner you automatically pass out.
I am looking forward to going home in a few weeks, for a couple of days, and may try to sneak up to the cottage for a night. I am going to go home for a week, alone, later in eh summer so that I can spend an official weekend there.
This Memorial Day weekend however, I am spending getting organized. Our practice is closed on Monday however since we’re at a conference the following Friday / Saturday there is a lot to get accomplished! With so many additional responsibilities in my schedule on top of the practice, I am blocking off time each week for each organization I am a part of, in order to manage my responsibilities.
We always say “I am too busy” but are we really? How much time do you personally waste on the internet, on facebook, watching TV, and just lounging around? We do all need time to “space out” but I believe we need to get clear and focused so that when we do work it is optimized. I believe with my new block schedule I can meet all my responsibilities with all of my organizations, have enough prep time for the practice, and be laser focused when I am with patients.

Have a wonderful, fun, safe long weekend!

What I mean by "cultivating vitalism"!

Come “cultivate Vitalism” with Genuine Chiropractic in Santa Barbara!
What does this mean? It means we are planting the seeds and growing strong roots in our community by role modeling and teaching healthy, vitalistic lifestyle principles.
A farmer once said when I was studying in Guatemala ten years ago that we must employ the weeds instead of exploiting them. In gardening and the plant world this means to just allow the “weeds” to grow so long as they are holding the soil in place and not out competing the crop for resources. With people and in community, this means helping others find and identify their personal strengths and then allowing them to tap into these strengths. Just like the plants work together to prevent soil erosion we must come together, lay down solid roots, and collaborate to co-create a healthy community.
Many people discuss healing and the health of mind, body, and spirit. However, we believe in order to fully cultivate Vitalism in Santa Barbara, we must also include a fourth item on this list and that is the planet!  If we are not good stewards of our environment then we will constantly flood our mind, body, and spirit with toxins and will never be able to reach our full potential.
Genuine Chiropractic invites you and your entire family to join us in this movement! Together, we can fully and optimally cultivate Vitalism in Santa Barbara, California, and eventually the world!

In Love & Light,
Dr. Elizabeth Wisniewski
